Inspect the walls in good light

Look for cracks, damp patches, peeling areas, powdery paint, stains and poor repairs. Photograph anything that may need the landlord's attention before work starts. Painting over an active leak or damp wall will not solve the cause.

Confirm what may be changed

If the apartment is rented, agree the colour and scope with the property owner or manager. Ask whether doors, ceilings, wardrobes and external-facing areas are included. Written clarity prevents disagreement during handover.

Choose a practical palette

View colour samples in the actual rooms. Natural light, bulbs, flooring and curtains can make the same colour look different. For smaller rooms, a light base can improve brightness, while selected deeper tones can define a feature wall.

Paint before major deliveries

Schedule the work before beds, sofas and appliances arrive where possible. Empty rooms reduce moving time and make it easier to protect the floor. If furniture is already present, group it centrally and cover it completely.

Allow for preparation and drying

A realistic programme includes cleaning, filling, sanding, spot priming, coat application, drying and touch-ups. Do not plan a move-in for the same hour the final coat is completed. Allow ventilation and follow the product instructions for recoat and cure times.

Check before handover

Review edges, corners, socket areas, door frames and the wall at both daylight and evening. Confirm that coverings and tape have been removed cleanly and that the rooms are ready for occupation.
